Is it true that Sherwin Williams Paint to Go samples paints are not meant to be used as permanent paints?
I bought three paint samples and wanted to use them to paint a piece of wood furniture. The label says that they must be top-coated. The salesman told me that they are not as durable as the normal paints and should only be used to choose colors by. I’ve seen them used by designers on DIY shows but haven’t heard this caution. Can anyone tell me whether or not it is okay to use this as a paint for furniture (pieces that will have minimal use or wear and tear) and if a topcoat is needed, what that is. Thank you.

My understanding is that it is the normal paint in a satin finish. I don’t know why this would be a problem. Chances are they don’t want people doing what you are doing. They’d rather sell you a gallon.

you can use it to paint the furniture ,just put a protective clear coat ,varnish or polyurethene over it ,the reason they say not to use it as a final coat product has to do with the chemical composition , there are less resins ,and base in the to go samples and they are not formulated to be a final paint,just a product to give you a quick color sample….painting contractor.

i worked in the place that supplies that kind of paint.its called paint samples.about 4oz. worth.i see no reason why you cant. it all comes from the same 55gal.barral that is supplied by the paint company.
