Mediterranean countries is not clear. You will have to specify which countries you mean. The ones which are part of the EU or EEC will come under European legislation but each country will have its own ways of implementing this.

why would they bother except in the cities where the food is shipped from America
they know the food is grown in their communities
the education standards ? ? can these people read – - let alone calculate a nutritional values NO insult intended
Please international communications is so poor
your question runs the risk for us to answer that might be an insulting manner
you may never get a verifiable answer because of the poverty in that region
