Is there a way to connect a bar-code reader to a gas pump?

Is there a way to connect a bar-code reader to a gas pump?
I am managing a fleet of a 100 vehicles, and would like to install a bar-code scanner at our gas pump so that the drivers do not have to manually enter the vehicle number and amount of gas purchased. Ideally the system would work so that the gas pump dispenses gas as the bar code is successfully read, and it records the volume of gas purchased.

Best answer:

Yes. BJ’s and Stop & Shop gas stations have bar code scanners so you can scan your shoppers cards and get whatever discounts are available for you.

Check where you live, if there’s a BJ’s or maybe Sams or Costco (if they have gas stations), they probably use them to get your membership ID number

Kroger gas stations use bar code readers. Speedway uses the same magnetic stripe reader for credit cards and Speedy Rewards cards.
