Lines in a CCD sensor, what does it mean?
I’m shopping for a scanner and it’s come down to two different brands. One has a CCD sensor with 6-lines and the other is 12-lines. What does the lines mean for a CCD sensor? Is more better or is less better?
These are the two products I’m deciding on, the CanoScan 8800F and the Epson V500. I’m trying to pick which one would be the best to scan 35mm file with and be happy with the results. I think I’ll mainly print 8x10s, but I’m also trying to digitally preserve the old negatives.

Best answer:

Normally, more lines would be better. Like a TV, the old analog system had about 480 lines actually sent by the station. Today’s new HD TV sets have 1080 lines. This provides a much clearer picture.
The problem is that 6 lines or 12 lines doesn’t make any sense in this context. I would say the more lines is better but if you could supply more information it would be easier to supply a better answer.
