Looked into barcode scanner, mild pain/burning in left eye?
Hello, I was at my college gym today where they have a barcode scanner located on the top of the bench, it is tilted upward and facing outward, so it swiped my eye as I was standing next to it with my classmates. Out of curiosity I picked it up and looked into it. I noticed it was sensitive to movement, and also noticed several laser beams hitting me in the eye for a few seconds, but I didn’t think much of it at the time.

Later in the gym I notice my left eye was irritated, in the middle, a kind of mild pain/burning which is still there now. I thought I’d better take a look at the scanner and got these details. “Caution: Class 2 laser light when open (with a warning to not look into it), Model No: MS3580, QuantumT Barcode Scanner”. The light and screen felt warm when I put my hand up to it. Is the light filtered so it doesn’t cause permanent eye damage with temporary exposure? I haven’t really noticed a change in my vision, although I do notice my left eye is a bit watery. Thanks

Best answer:

Call an eye doctor’s office and ask them–they should be able to answer that question. Also, if you go to an eyeglasses store, they have optometrists there who also know more about that sort of thing and might be able to give you better advice. Here are a few websites.
