My friend got a job driving a special scanner around the city. He atleast needs to commit 40 hours for it and have to drive his own automobile. He can work any time he want as long he drives at least 40 hours with the scanning device .Now my question is it worth it ..will he make enough money for himself after paying for gas or is it a total lose as there’s no reimbursment for gas . Do you think its totally waste of time and money?

Best answer:

i think its a total waste of time because not only the cost of gas but what about mileage and wear and tear on the car. think of the wear of the tires, breaks and unnecassary use of his car if he has a nice car. might make for a higher insurance rate too.

$16 is what rural postal carriers make and they pay for their own gas and they make good money. this kid is not even leaving town for goodness sake.

of course it’s worth it. 40X$16 is $640 a week. after takes he’ll still have over $500. Take a hundred away for gas which he can write off on his taxes since it isn’t reimbursed. He’ll still bring home over $20,000 a year and considering he can do this job at anytime he wants to then he could have a second job and really make a killing

This is an example on how our educational system isn’t preparing youth for the real world.

If you had been properly prepared, you wouldn’t have to go ask this question. Find out how much it costs to fill up the tank, and how long that tank of gas lasts. From that you can find how much it would cost for 40 hours worth of driving (you could set up a proportion if you are the industrious type). Then compare the cost to the pay.

ps: why not get some advertising space on the car as well? Like the little Red Bull trucks or something. If he is already driving around, he could pull in some extra cash by selling advert space.

As far as the salary vs. gas… the salary will well cover the cost of the gas. Let’s say he avg’s 35mph for the 40 hours of driving in town. That’s1400 miles. Now take alot off for stop signs and stuff like that. So, just guesstimate 1000 miles per week. Most cars that’s 3 tanks + or – a bit. each tank @ about 30? bucks..we’ll say 100$ for gas each week vs. 640$ in pay. BUT… and a big BUT at that, is the 4000 miles a month he’ll put on his car. 48k miles a year and his car will be crap in no time at all. But hey, if he likes to drive…why not…haha
Now, the calculations were just out of the air…i know there are a billion other variables and I could be way off, but that is just what I could think up real quick. cya
