My home-page seems to have been hijacked by backdoor-guard.com.?
Whatever I try to open (IE, Yahoo, Myspace, etc), I get a page looking like a Windows Defender warning page (it isn’t), that tells me my pc is infected. When I check the site, they offer to fix it… for a fee! I ran anti-virus/malware, etc scanners, but they miss it. Po-up blocker doesn’t stop it. Using System Restore didn’t help.

This is what appears in the address bar…

backdoor-guard.com/index.php?module=pay

- (and then a strange symbol that looks like ‘Et’) -

msg=win-Windows Internet Explorer

I advise anyone reading this not to go to that site, just in case!
Anybody come across backdoor-guard.com before?

I can open MSN Instant Messaging, but nothing else… I just get the above page come up!

Best answer:

It appears your computer has been infected with Spyware. Try using Spybot Search & Distroy or Ad-Aware

if it happened recently you should do a system restore, your computer stores backups of it’s entire registry and you can replace your current registry with one of the restore points.

go start – programs – accessories – system tools – system restore. check restore my computer to an earlier time. and press next. then click the date that came before your problems came up. any programs which you installed after that date won’t work they will need to be re-installed. GOOD LUCK!

Yeah, it is a lowlife search engine stealer. AdAware should remove it for you and restore your old settings.

    go here: safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

download Spybot Search and Destroy(For free)
    install it
    have it “Check for Updates”
run it and have it “Check for Problems”
    have it “Fix Selected Problems”
Now go back into your browser settings: Tools->InternetOptions->General and retype your homepage back into the back that says “Homepage”
    Save and Exit.
    You should be good now
Get and install a decent Anti-virus/Firewall program.
Keep it current or much worse than this could happen next time
    Happy surfing, bob

BackDoorGuard (backdoor-guard.com) is a browser hijacker, the imitation of Windows Security Center. It informs you the following:
“You strongly need to FIX this problem! If you don’t do it – all the information from your computer might be deleted! Press the button below to check for all harmful programs and viruses from your computer and get help to delete it”.
The purpouse of this message is to scare users and force them to buy rogue anti-spyware applications or to call to paid telephone number (2.5 $ per minute) for “technical support” or “instant access”. Backdoor-guard.com results from Zlob trojan and may be difficult to remove manually. In addition Zlob can open browser security holes to download new spyware.

    here are manual removal instructions:
