NEED HELP, CROSSING US-CANADIAN BORDER AFTER JUNE 1, 2009!?

Okay! so my friends and I have been planning a trip to montreal for a couple months now.

the time has come and we will soon be taking our trip next friday, woo!

BUT- I have a question.
everyone else in our group has a passport or and EDL (enhanced drivers license) all except of of us.
SOME PEOPLE like to wait ’til the last minute.

if she applys now, I know she obviously won’t receive the actual document in the mail before friday, but can she bring her birth certificate and driver’s license as well as her receipt from the DMV?

it has a barcode so I figured they could just scan it and it will tell them that she has a EDL on the way. but I’m confused so let me know!

    Sorry, but your friend can’t go. There are absolutely no exceptions with the new passport laws, they are very firm at the border. Don’t bring her along, because when you get to the border and they won’t let her pass, you’ll have to drive all the way home.
    Have a nice trip though! Canada is a beautiful country :)

    I am amazed at how many people come on to Yahoo answers saying they know the ID requirements for travelling between the US and Canada, and yet ask if other ID is acceptable.

    No, she can’t. The enhanced license has a computer chip embedded in it. The paper duplicate or DMV receipt, doesn’t. She needs the actual license or an actual passport or she isn’t going to get across.
