Paying cash but clerk not scanning items?
For years I’ve been a regular at a convenience store a couple of blocks from my house. We often walk up after work and get the same thing so we always know how much it’s going to be.

The last several times I was there the clerk accepted the cash but did not use the UPC scanner to ring up the purchase.

He’s been working there a few months now but it’s only been in the past month that I’ve been sticking to cash instead of debit.

There is no on-site manager. This person appears to work alone although there are security cameras in the store (I’m sure no one watches them unless there’s a problem though).

Finding the store owner’s name/address would not be difficult as my state maintains business data bases online.

I am extremely reticent to insinuate theft since I don’t know that to be true, but it’s a common problem for these types of businesses and if I were the owner I’d want a heads-up.

What would you do?

He probably knows the cost of the items and is putting the money in the cash register.
If you feel the need you can still contact them and ask why they are changing the procedure, this will indirectly inform them and they can take action.
in this way you are not judging anyone nor insinuating anything
