Hi,

My uncle works security at the local hospital about 5 miles away from my house and I was curious if I will be able to pick up their broadcasts this far away. I am using a Uniden Bearcat handheld if that matters.

Should be able to. 5 miles isn’t that far considering the frequencies they likely operate on.

If not then try an external antenna like I have. Mine is homemade but you can find a factory made type at a store like Radioshack or online. The connector is called a BNC type.

I have a Uniden as well. Goes everywhere with me.
