RFID is a system of tracking things. It’s commonly used for inventory and helps a store manage it’s inventory more efficiently. It has many other uses. It can’t be used to track things from a distance. It has no power of it’s own. It gets it’s power from the reader when the reader is within a short distance of the tag. The link below has a very good explaination if it is a bit technical.
