Some teachers and principals might not like flames in the classroom. Maybe a hot plate instead? The trigger could be either the power switch, or you could start with the hot plate already warm and have it moved to a new spot where the heat could trigger the next device.
Heat could cause a balloon to expand a little (Boyles Law), enough to push a marble or something.
Heat could cause a popcorn bag to expand just like a balloon (similar to Boyles Law).
Heat could cause a liquid to boil (but this could be slow) over into a dish that is on one side of a lever. As the dish goes down, the other side of the lever would go up.
