If you walked out without paying for yourself, they can charge you with shoplifting.

none of the rent a cops have the right to strip search you period, they can [with certain training] detain you till the real police arrive, but hey if it REALLY is just a tag stuck on your foot [mind you they are some thick so fail to see how you did not notice it] then whats the big deal, show them your empty hands / bag and move on.

They can not detain you for any length of time especially if they can visually see you have nothing. Their loss prevention employees need to see you conceal or take store merchandise in order to detain you.

They can stop you and try to locate what tripped the alarm. If they can’t then they call the police. The police then can strip search you. Even then they may not find the tag, but they know definitely you do not have anything. You will then be released with apologies and possibly even a store coupon.

No, Best Buy does not have the authority to strip search a minor, an adult, or anybody else. The police can search you if they see fit, but Best Buy cannot act before the police arrive.

You will not be persecuted unless you have an actual item. They may have a right to search you, but only in petty places, like pockets. In general though, you would not be in trouble if you explained what happened.
