Several Questions about Publishing a book myself?
Several Questions about Publishing a book myself?
Firstly, I’m not going through a vanity press like Lulu or Iuniverse. I am self publishing, but on my own. Laying the book out in proper format, art, sending it to printer, etc. Please do not try to discourage my choice.
I have several questions that I would greatly appreciate being answered.
1. Will getting my work copyrighted give me an ISBN number?
2. If not, should I buy an ISBN before or after I have it copyrighted?
3. Will I need a barcode, and if so, how do I get one?
4. Would a vanity press like Lulu simply do this all for me or should I continue doing it on my own?
Thank you in advance.
Best answer:
ISBN and barcode… Self-publishing gets you pretty much “screwed” for that. Copywriting doesn’t get you anything but a copywrite. (isbn NOT included)
Copywrite BEFORE anything else, as soon as it’s done… (if possible)
Be prepared to do a LOT of leg-work to get your book sold and it’s VERY unlikely it’ll get picked up by any kind of bookstore unless its really REALLY good…
(you SHOULD get an Agent & actually get it publish-published they take care of all publishing-stuff the marketing-stuff and everything, so all you have to do is WRITE.. Agents don’t charge you anything except comission off what you make, so the more YOU make, the more they make, which motivates them to make you as much money as possible… They never charge fees or make you pay for anything… All you have to do is get one to take you on… and be okay with getting a couple rejection letters before you find the “right” agent for you)
