Should cars have built-in governors that ‘read’ speed signs and adjust accordingly?
Should cars have built-in governors that ‘read’ speed signs and adjust accordingly?
And by built-in governors, I mean a system that has a barcode on speed signs and a laser scanner in the headlights that automatically adjusts the governor to the speed limit. People would be unable to speed, and thusly unable to cause as many speed-related wrecks. Would the roads be safer with this system in place? Is it worth a test?

The money to initiate such a system, would be better spent on putting more police on the roads.
I dis-agree with any type of governor. What about emergencies?
What about speed traps? Areas specifically designed to make a person speed?
But most importantly, it would dumb down a process that does not give enough training to start with.

would these aensors and bar codes adjust the speeds of the slower drivers too?

I read something online about something like that. Theyre actually doing it with some car prototypes. Right now theyre debating whether it would be safe to use, and whether it would be safe for the car to take control. But if they do put these systems in all cars, it wont be standard for at least another decade or so.

I can just see everyone on the highway going the exact same speed. The cars would be backed up for miles. Besides, you would always have some yokel mechanic making money taking them out illegally. Maybe we should just install some missiles in the speed limit signs that would take out any offender.

you were so close to having a good idea. i was recently asked to write about something similar to this, instead of doing the intriate barcode scaning bullshit you were talking about, i made it MUCH EASIER.
GPS now a days can tell you the speed limit of every major road in the united states and the UK. they can also tell you how fast you are going… get the idea?
pair that device with a versatile governor on all vehicles and BAM you have instant satefy. im not saying that you will be fored to drive that speed, im saying you can only accelerate up to whatever the posted speed is of that road.
think about it, the only compnent missing is a versatile governor system.
for everyone who commented above me, youre fucking idiots, its cheap, just a pairing of 2 different devices. missles? wtf. stupid ignrance.
and putting more cops on the road solves nothing.
the only valid point would be the guy who said somehting about some mechanic taking them off.
which is why it would be so easy to tll who had that done or not based on if they are spedding or not, if you speed, you get your car impounded. bam
