Stupid question for CCW holders?
Stupid question for CCW holders?
Have you gone into any business or establishment that your gun sets the theft or other alarms off? Perhaps in the electronics section of a store or anything? (I know that’s barcode stuff, but just wondering).
What did you do?

Nope, never had a problem, and most of my carry guns are all metal.
Obviously a metal detector would set it off, i see some banks in major cities like Las Vegas have installed them. They trip so frequently that an employee usually hits the open buzzer immediately. I would not subject myself to any search or questioning to anyone besides law enforcement. But, NV has very good CCW laws.

yeah, it happened to me one time. some security guy came over and tried to apprehend me, but i pulled out my dirty harry style .45 and blasted my way out of there. now i write this answer from my prison-issued laptop.
(you ask a dumb question, you’re gonna get a dumb answer)

Most anti theft devices use magnets and radio signals. So all you have to worry about it metal detectors, which are not anti theft devices, and are more of anti weapon devices.
Tahoe is right on.

I’ve never had my gun set off a shoplifting detector. Oddly enough something in my Harley Davidson motorcycle boots drives the detector at the local Wal Mart nuts.

Not going to happen.
Music and electronic sections of stores use RFID embedded tags placed inside the mechandise when manufactured. The 6′ tall Sensomatic sensors you walk though emit a low power RF signal that is received by the tag, rectrifed into DC power that operates it’s tiny transmitter – this signal is picked up, and, this is what trips off the alarm. Works exactly like a Prox Card used for security readers. At the checkout counter the purchased item is passed over a high power coil that burns the little transmitter to death.
A firearm is never going to set one of these off.
A firearm will only set off a metal detector.

Bank near me used to have the double doors with the metal detector in the middle. When I first started carrying I saw a bit of commotion when I entered, and the second door was locked. But they buzzed me in and nothing was mentioned of it.
