Sudden cartridge problems on HP printer?

Sudden cartridge problems on HP printer?
All of a sudden tonight I got an error message that something’s wrong with my black ink cartridge. I took it out and put it back in and it printed a document without a problem. When I tried printing a second document, I got the same message and tried the same thing. It printed fine until the third page and then it FREAKED. The letters weren’t even close to legible and looked kind of like barcode lines. When I tried opening “Printer Services” under properties, I got another error – “unable to complete the operation”. I even tried cleaning the cartridge manually, but there wasn’t really anything to clean off. I think I’m probably going to have to just replace the cartridge, but does anyone know what the heck is wrong with it?

P.S. – I have an HP Deskjet 4260

Best answer:

Sounds like a clogged or damaged printer head.

This is going to be difficult to explain because HP
printer heads are different, and some are even
separate items.

Locate the printer head, spray windex heavily on
a paper towel and wipe off the surface.

I will return.

EDIT: Yeah, if I’m not mistaken, the printer head and ink
cartridge are one piece. The solution is easy, just replace
the ink cartridge.

hi little poet, golly, for it only to be in your black cartridge it could be your drivers might have automaticly jumped to another driver like let me give you an example everything that is in your computer is abreviated so all can fit in a portion of the registry so anymore explaination will tend to confuse you so my recommendation is before you go to buy a new cartridge first open your printer and see if you can see any black ink toward the bottom of your printer if you don’t and i am not expecting you would or it would leak on your desktop…then i would hit start>settings>control panel there look for add/remove or if you have vista or windows 7 programs&features scrol down and uninstall it. then reboot when your computer comes back on place your printer software in and reinstall it that might fix the problem but if it hasn’t then go ahead and buy another cartridge now if it is doing the same thing with the new cartridge then replace your printer and allow me to tell you that brothers printers are the top of the line according to consumer report and pc world magazine don’t feel bad i have to buy one too i have a dell 962 all-in-one printer that i am replacing it is not compatable with windows 7 beta. good luck hope i was helpful to you
