This is a stupid question about paying bills?
You know when you get a bill and they give you an envelope to use when returning your payment, does it matter if you do not use the envelope? My car insurance is due in a couple days and I can’t find the envelope they provided to me. Will it be okay if I just use a regular envelope or is there a special barcode on it that gets it to the right department easier (I don’t want this to be late). Thanks for any help!

Best answer:

The barcode on the bill envelope does help, but you can use another envelope. Just be sure you send it to the address that receives payments. If you are not sure, you can usually call and get automated address information.

Yes, you can use a regular envelope in lieu of the pre-printed one. You may want to call the company to ask how it should be addressed — some companies (at least my mortgage company) do like you to include a code on the envelope for easier processing.
