What are some uses for a UPC code?
What are some uses for a UPC code?
I am looking into buying a Blackberry on eBay. The description of one listing I’m interested in mentions that the original item box is included, but there is no UPC code. By buying this, am I putting myself at risk? Is there some sort of “caveat emptor” that involves a UPC? I realize that it may have to do with a previous rebate the seller participated in. Is there any way to check that?
Thanks in advance for any help.

No, but you DO assume risk when buying ANYTHING from sellers on ebay, but no more risk is assumed without the UPC on the box
The UPC is used for product check out for retailers. The barcode is scanned and the price and description are retrieved from a central database for the receipt.
The UPC was probably sent in to the manufacturer as part of the terms of getting a rebate…
