What are the barcode sticker/label things on items and tags for?
Theyre on like every item. Like on clothing tags and stuck on objects, etcetc.

Im just wondering though like, are they just for telling the price, or are they for security to prevent stealing? Or both?
Ive jsut kind of been wondering about it for awhile and couldnt find a straight answer haha
So its not used for security at all, like it wont set off any alarms at the doors?
Wow, thats what I always thought it was for haha. Along with the price thing.
Best answer:
–ยป When the cashier scans the item, the computer knows what the item is just by the barcode.

Well its easy to scan it so it has the price in there and the computer totally identifies it.

they’re UPC codes… the cashier scans them and the computer is able to identify what item is being scanned along with the price

The bar code might also be used for when the store does inventory so they know how many items to reorder or what items
don’t sell.
Nothing really prevents stealing.

The barcode tags reduce shoplifters; they can no longer easily switch price tags from a lower-cost item to a higher-priced one.
These tags don’t have chips which can send information to the reader, they must be manually scanned by the cashier. If something was stolen, this can be seen in the inventory.
