What do I call these types of panoramic photography?
What do I call these types of panoramic photography?
I’m making a webpage for a panoramic photographer and I’m not sure what to label the different galleries.
The first one is still panoramic photos like this one-
willpearson.co.uk/assets/images/top_image.jpg
The second is mirror balls and they are kind of like this, although not exactly as I think the guy I’m making the site for has a technique no one else really uses.
outerspace-software.com/images/bixorama/panorama9.jpg
The third is panoramic photos displayed like this, where it moves around and can be dragged to show whichever view you like, like on this site. (click one of the images like “Salon des aides de camps” to see what I mean)
elysee.fr/panoramic/index.php
And the fourth gallery is 3D photos that you need the red and blue glasses to see.
I’m just wondering if there’s better or more correct wording to label these galleries. The guy I’m making the site for was very, very vague about what he actually wanted.
The site isn’t for professional photographers so much as for his clients, so I was looking more for a one or two worded description. The mirrorballs are also 360 degrees.

1-Standard multi-image stitching.
2-Full 180 degree fisheye lens
3-Full 360 degree “tour” image. This is made using a 180 degree fisheye lens on a camera mounted on a tripod with a special head that allows the photographer to rotate the camera 180 degrees and keep the film plane in the same location for both exposures. Special software completes the image

First one – Flat or Planar Panorama
Second one – The example supplied appears to be a fish eye lens effect but if you mean a true panorama effect similar to that then it would be a Spherical Panorama
Third one – Circular Panorama with ends joined together to make a 360 degree Virtual Reality Tour
Fourth one – 3D images as you correctly said.
Your client might be vague about the layout or content of his site but he really should know the names of the types of panoramas he’s creating so I’d suggest you ask him directly to confirm the correct labelling of his images.

One absolutely necessary factor in a successful web designer/client relationship is a precise briefing and clear communication. It doesn’t matter what other people consider to be the correct nomenclature, it is what the client calls it that is important. There is no way that you should be making these decisions, not if you expect the client to sign off it it without potential problems.
I suggest that you re-direct this question to your client.
