What do the barcodes on food packages do?
Ok, so you know how on every bag of chips, candy, etc at a liquor store has a barcode… What is it use for? Does it make a sound so people cant steal food or is it just use for checking the prices of items? Does anybody know?
Best answer:
It’s for the clerks to scan to get the price to ring up on the register.

Its there to ring up the item. Its easier to scan that barcode than type in the price by hand and having to remember all the prices or if something is half off. Even though sometimes the computer messes up too.
