what do the numbers mean on the tag above the bar code for a new pair of Crocs?
All of the pairs I’ve seen have a UPC code that looks like the following: 41158 00248. The first five numbers don’t seem to vary at all, but the last five numbers seem to be different on all of the shoes. What do the numbers mean?
Is there any way to tell from this number or any other number on the tag or the shoe how many shoes have been sold since the company started or in a given time period?

Best answer:

Well, I’ve worked retail for years, so I am going to hypothisize: style #, color #, and size#. It’s for inventory tracking.

It is just a UPC number. The first 6 or seven numbers are the company identifier, and then the next few digits are attached to the shoe model/color/size. I used to do UPCs for a retail company and we had to set them up. They may have some kind of special coding to say that certain ranges are a certain model or color, but since I don’t work there, I have no clue.
