What does industrial piercing mean?

I was wondering if there are certain assumptions or labels associated with the industrial piercing. Who normally gets these done, guys, girls, gay or straight people? I have a friend who would like to get one, but doesn’t want to give off the wrong idea.

    its just for fashion. it doesnt mean anything its just a piercing,

    its two or more piercings connected with a barbell.

    its just an ear piercing basically, just just a bar through cartilage.
    i’ve only seen girls with this piercing, but i’d say that there is no certain type of person that gets this kinda piercing done.

    Most people would associate it with emo/hard rock types,
    but if you really want to, do it. It’s just a piercing, and I think it looks pretty cool too.

    well im a senior in high school and most of the people who have them done are the “popular” girls. but thats not to say only rich tannorexic whores get them done lol.

    I’ve seen all kinds of people with industrial piercings. It means that you wanted a slightly off-the-beaten-path cartilage piercing. There are no labels that I know of associated with them.
