What information will a barcode give me?

What information will a barcode give me?
I will use sage for my shop and would like to know if with the barcode reader the serial number of the product will be entered automatically in sage if no can anyone please tell me if I have to do that manually or is there any other way how I can do it? Thank you.

There’s probably a section for you to add new UPC’s to the database. Also, any field that asks you to “Enter Item” can probably be filled in by the barcode reader.
