What is the best cost efficient process in publishing my book?
I am currently writing a book and I would like to know what steps I must take in order to get my book in stores and online.

Is it a smart move to go through a Print on Demand?

Do I need a barcode and ISBN number?

I need some advice please!

okay. if your are self publishing and want to go in stores also you are going to need to get an isbn number and barcode. from what I have seen in stores books are diappearing as fast as cds. So you have to decide what is the more cost effective approach for you. puttring it in an ebook .pdf form or doing a print book. Also you might want to consider the market you are trying to enter into as if its poertry people don’t buy them as much, if its fiction people are still into those.

some of the steps are

writing the book
Gertting it edited, redited, and copy edited
Getting a cover design
proofing the final copy
then narrowing your printing options down
send everything off (including barcodes and associated numbers)
check what the criteria is for the amazons, barnes & nobles, etc for accepting books from you.

Then sell sell sell.

    If you self-publish, it’s virtually impossible to get your book in stores. And that’s where most sales take place.

    I strongly, strongly advise against self-publishing fiction.

    What’s totally cost-efficient is submitting your work to literary agents until one signs you on, then sells it to a paying publisher. The publisher takes care of all ISBN, copyright, and other issues, and your agent will zealously protect your rights.

    Print-on-Demand would be a smart option if you want to control your book’s entire creative process. Most importantly, you control the number of books you want to have printed and you can even set the price for your book as well.However, POD published books hardly get into bookstores because of its non-returnable element.

    In this case, you may want to opt for a bookstore returnability program should you wish to self-publish your book. This way, your book can get some space in bookstores and you can also assure book sellers that your title is returnable.

    If you’re able to get a publisher to publish your book, then you don’t pay for anything, the publisher even pays you.

    lit agents don’t get paid unless someone publishes your book and they only get a cut from what you make so there’s no out of pocket…
