What is the best way to remove sticker/labels from jars/bottles?

I keep old jars from pickles, pasta sauces and sometimes a nice wine bottle. I get most of the sticker/labels off, but there’s always some still onthe bottle that I can’t get off for anything. Any suggestions?

Scrape off what you can, then you’ve got two options. Goo Gone is available in the cleaning aisle of most grocery stores. It works very well. Rubbing alcohol also works well. Rub some onto the label and glue using a cotton ball or swab, let it sit, then scrape off.

    Good luck!

i just let it sit in hot hot water for a few minutes and normally the paper will slide off and just scrub the glue off with a sponge.

put dish soap on it and let it soak in ,Then let the bottle sit in a sink of water for a couple of hours…It should basically float off….

Leave the Jar in Hot water and the labels would come off easily. or to take the glue off use spray WD-40 on glue.

Usually if there left to soak in a hot soapy dish water it tends to , the label that is , tends to fall off. I know that there are those stubborn ones that just cling on. For those use some WD40. The glue and label should come right off.

I recycle wine bottles for home made wine. Some labels slough off with warm water and some don’t. Labels with a shiny glaze or foil component are the hardest to remove.

If you have number of labels to remove I have found that soaking the bottles overnight in a tub of warm water and household ammonia will soften up all of the labels and adhesive.

I don’t have exact proportions but I use about a cup of ammonia to a half laundy tub of water.

Any residue can be rubbed off with a Scotch bright scrub pad.

Use rubber gloves and don’t leave the bottles soak for than more than a day or two or the glass will begin to cloud.

There are several types of label glue – some wash off with soap and water. Others cling to the glass with their whole being.

If there is not a lot of goo left, you can use tape to remove some types of goo – I prefer 3M Scotch Transparent tape in the green plaid box. You take a strip about three inches long and stick the sticky side on the goo and lift – sometimes it takes several tries – this works real well on pill bottles.

If you get the real sticky rubbery kind of goo, you can use a sharp knive like a box cutter or utility knife – run it between the glass and the goo. Be careful so you don’t cut your finger off!
