What is the difference between vinyl and pleather? Or are they the same thing with a different names?

pleather is not a real fabric – it’s just anything that has the look and feel of leather, but fake

pleather is generally more dull and matte looking like real leather while vinyl is more shiny and plastic looking.

Vinyl is mainly a plastic type material…..nothing like real leather. A lot of times quite shiny.
Pleather can range from a very cheap close to vinyl feel, to the more expensive ultra-suade brand that could almost be mistaken for real leather.
At the fabric store look near the ultra suade….that is where I used to find what I needed to make leather like pants for band members. At that time it was plentiful….and some of the cheaper stuff looked more leather like the more it was abused…(ie rolled up thrown in a gig bag and not looked at until the next gig.)

It depends on the look you want- there are different thickness’ of vinyl if you know where to look, but pleather generally has a slightly thicker and softer feel- closer to leather. Nicer fake leather garments seam to mainly be made of pleather.
