What substance or process to use to use to thoroughly remove the paper and adhesive of empty bottle labels?
I want to recycle empty wine bottles but it takes time to thoroughly remove the paper and adhesives used on the labels. I tried using warm water and soap but the label, especially the adhesive substance, could not be properly cleaned

Rubbing alcohol would be the cheapest.

Would work too

Soak them for a while in a full sink of hot water. A scruffy pad can help get the rest of the adhesive off.
For foolproof results try “goof off” or another adhesive remover that you can purchase at a hardware store. They are a bit oily and messy so I’d use with latex gloves but they work like a charm.

I have had success with a product called Goo Gone. I purchased mine at Lowes for $ 3.96 for a 16 ounce spray bottle. It works great.

my answer would be you need the water to be HOTTER than your using but not so hot the it would brake the glass. use tap water at its hottest and let it stand for just a minute or two before removing the label. i also do this with plastic containers that have labels already on them and ones i have put a label on for the freezer.
try it
good luck to ya.

After soaking the bottle in warm water for an hour or so, peel or scrape off all the paper you can. Then spray the remaining paper and glue with WD-40. It dissolves the glue, allowing you to wipe it off with a paper towel. The WD-40 residue (very slight) can be washed off easily with soap and water.

lemon juice.
Its natural
and it works! I’ve used it for years on label residue.
Good luck, hope it works!
