I remember Digital Convergence was trying something like that many years ago (definitely years before 2007), but people were too paranoid by the thought of databases correlating products that people buy, and they went defunct. And now today we have databases correlating entire peoples lives (FaceBook, Myspace, Youtube, etc.) and no one cares. Go figure.
