When returning an item at Best Buy, do they scan the UPC bar code or just the receipt?

When returning an item at Best Buy, do they scan the UPC bar code or just the receipt?

I have a Canadian Blu-ray copy of “IGOR” and it has a totally different UPC barcode then the one from here (United States) and since I got it for free and in case they won’t accept it because of the different UPC numbers, I was going to buy the U.S version keep that one and later return the Canadian version, leaving me with the US version with the corresponding UPC number, later making me exchange it in store for another movie but with U.S UPC. So am wondering if by any chance do they scan the UPC barcode when returning something? Or they just scan the receipt from the purchase? Thank you so much! Hope I was clear. Thanks again! Im very curious about this.
