Where can I get a cheap bar-code scanner I can use to price books found second hand for selling on-line?
I see many people out there scanning in books they find at yard sales, etc, so they can see how much the value is on-line. What are they using? Where can I find one? Thanks for you input!

Best answer:

Barcode reader on its own is useless, they are normally sold with the software to make the package work.

Groqit makes a very small (pocket sized) barcode reader that is ideal for using anywhere, as it is self-contained. It can create lists of Books, Movies and other things. It comes with categories for you to scan into, and you can make more. It stores lists of barcodes you have scanned.

The groqit website can then be used to translate the barcodes into files you can look through by Title or Author. The site lets you do a lot of list-building, organizing, and makes it possible to share lists with friends. In other words, it’s a really complete, integrated system, and the only one this suited to what people (as opposed to factories or stores) want a barcode reader to do for them.

The site’s tools are mostly free — anyone can use them without buying a Groqit, with a couple of limitations. The site has data bases on movies, music, games and books. The tools help you by filling in a lot automatically; for instance if you put in a barcode number or ISBN, the data for Title and Author fills in for you.

    The Groqit device costs $95.

This was just written up in Crave (the Gadget Blog)
