laser do no glossy stuff anyway, inkjets do photo-quality but none of that is real waterproof. Laser burns the ink by heating up the powder and thus is more water resistant. Even the praised to be waterproof inkjets are not, so think about it and avoid wet or humid storage or handling with your labels.

To get a decent resolution on the print and crisp quality I would always go for laser printing.
You can always go for a wax based Xerox printer which gives high res laser style glossy finish. See below:
