why can.t the public buy a bar code reader to see how bad there getting ripped 0ff?
ever watch in a store when a employ is scanning and marking items up.

Best answer:

Who is marking items up at the register? You would witness an employee doing so no? If the register rings up the wrong price there are consumer laws against this (particularly in California) just show them the price on the shelf.

you can get bar code readers, hand held battery powered. It’s the stores data base that you would need access too to see the mark up. It’s not illegal to mark goods up that is commerce.

First of all, the price isn’t in the bar code. The bar code is just a different representation of the number shown below it. That number corresponds to price and other information that is stored in the store’s computers and pulled up when the bar code is scanned.

If you think they’re marking things up, you may be able to make a complaint to the state attorney general’s office. In some states it’s illegal to display one price for an item and then charge another price. You’ll need some sort of evidence, such as a receipt showing the markup and photos of the displayed price showing the difference.
