Why did USPS require a signature for My Royal Mail package?

Why did USPS require a signature for My Royal Mail package?
I recently ordered a product from the UK and it was sent via Royal Mail with airsure delivery confirmation, which requires no signature. The barcodes all clearly said no sig required but the USPS still treated it like a registered letter. I can’t seem to get an answer from the USPS, so if anyone who is familiar with their policies or could provide some insight I would appreciate it. It caused me some problems so I would just like to know why it happened.

Best answer:

This is probably because USPS has no equivalent domestic mail service to Royal Mail’s Airsure. As Airsure is actually a registered service, the average USPS postman will most probably be unaware that Airsure doesn’t require a signature, when most, if not all, other registered services around the world do require one.

Also, its possible that the individual postman didn’t have a functional barcode gun on his person and so reverted to the old method of delivery confirmation to ensure that the tracking followed through.
