why do we use the dewey decimal system as opposed to simply labeling books by section and author?
why do we use the dewey decimal system as opposed to simply labeling books by section and author?
My library has 2 sections fiction and nonfiction and there’s no alphabetical system. Whenever I’m looking for a book I have to go to the back of are library and get somebody to look it up.Why is this convenient? Why can’t they just arrange by section and save everybody some time?

The Dewey Decimal System is used in many countries. It is a convenient way of putting nonfiction books together by subject.
If your library is small, perhaps they can’t afford a professional cataloger to do that so they have to do it with volunteer help.
