Why does tracking seem to stop at receiving postal branches?

Why does tracking seem to stop at receiving postal branches?

Have sent numerous priority items through ISC ORD and that is the last tracking confirmation. Even after a month or Two. USPS personnel keep telling me to wait, but after losing a 4 cubic foot box and other items it gets expensive. Some of the items are are expensive and/or irreplaceable. The items have had bar codes on them.
Even though packages have been delivered, quite a few seem to slip the system, with the addressee being the next to notify about the receipt!

Tracking does not stop until it is delivered to the addressee and is generally available online within 12-24 hours thereafter.
