why is a barcode required for a rebate?
why is a barcode required for a rebate?
I understand the barcode contains information specific to the product, but does it contain other information as well? Like where the product was sold?
Thanks babygirl030369.
OK, so the barcode has information about the specific product so stores can maintain inventory, I understand that. But when you are required to submit a barcode to a company for a rebate, what information are they looking for on the rebate?
I had something purchased and then given to me. The receipt is in another persons name, and the item was purchased in another state. So I am wondering if the manufacturer is looking for more information on the bar code like where the item was purchased. That is why I am asking.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken
Best answer:
Yes barcodes are scanned into a computer system that tracks inventory in a stores system. That barcode can tell them whether or not they actually sold that paticular item.
Manufacturing companies scan their products as they ship them out to keep track of where their products are, how quickly they are selling, etc. This gives the store it was purchased from credit towards more items or for discounts on the product.
