Why is my canon scanner mp 160 not working?

The scanner always used to work. Now it only works if I scan a picture and print it directly, it is not allowing me to put the picture on my pc. In fact, when I press the scan button (previously a window would pop up on my screen), now nothing happens. I have read other blogs saying i might have to change my printer settings? If it is true, how do I go about doing that?

    It sounds like the scanner software on your computer is corrupted, not running, or is removed. Can you print from your computer? If you can’t, then maybe the interface cable between the scanner & computer isn’t connected. Check it and reseat it.

    If you can print, then you may need to check your scanner software to make sure it’s installed and running. Maybe reinstall it again.
