Why would a UPC code be missing on an eBay item?
Why would a UPC code be missing on an eBay item?
I am looking into buying a Blackberry phone, but my current contract terms make it rather expensive to buy a new model. I am looking at a lightly used one for a decent buy-it-now price (between 0 and 0). It seems legitimate, with pictures of the actual item and not ones from press releases, but one thing caught my eye as I read the product description.
The description reads that the original box is included, “minus upc”. I assume this refers to the UPC Universal Product Code. I don’t know the technicalities of retail/marketing law as they would apply to eBay and reselling items, but I’m not sure why you would have to remove the UPC if you were reselling an item. Is there a reason, legitimate or not, that you can think of for this? If so, what? Is there anything that could explain why the UPC is missing?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Rebate purposes or it could be a dealer who removes it so there is no chance of you returning it or getting service on it. Check feedback, that is the true indicator. Be careful and good luck!

Most likely the seller sent the UPC code in to claim a rebate.
