Will applying printable CD labels damage a standard CD player in your car, computer or any other cd device?
I want to start making labels for my CD’s and DVD’s but certain manufacturers do not recommend using any kind of labeled disc? What gives?

I am inclined to agree with them, as at high speeds, a poorly applied label will make a disc wobble. While this is okay at the 150RPM speed of a CD player, itt could make a disc shatter once you factor 150RPM X 52 = really fast peak spindle rotations. If a disc were to shatter, you’d lose the disc- usually the reader is duff after, too.
