    Of course not. Cash registers operate in previous day mode not real time.

    Examples of real time would be:

    Slap
    Kick
    Punch
    Knocked out
    Run over
    Killed

    I could give more but you got the picture (maybe). LOL

    Despite what the others have said, yes they are controlled by a RTOS. These are much more than the old cash change machines. They actually are fully programmed to get updates on stock, feed back sales data, etc.

    Other examples would be the O/S in any smart phone.

    Credit card authorization systems and airline ticketing programs are real-time. Instantaneous transfer of data, unlike records batched and transmitted periodically.
