XP can start ONLY in safe mode after new hard drive installation?
I recently bought a new 250Gg for my Dell Dimension 3000. I took the old drive out and followed the procedures to install the new one. ( I turn the small thing to master on the new hard drive as well because I don’t have any slave). I have reinstalled XP and after that every time I turned the desktop on it stays on the black screen (The one showing Windows XP) for a while and says “The system found 0 drive. Press F1 to continue or F2 for set up”. When I press F1, the computer goes to safe mode and there I can see the new drive installed and everything looks perfect. When I press F2 it brings me to another screen where several items are presented and where you can make sure changes.
My question is why is the new drive showing on safe mode and why can’t the computer reboot to its normal screen? By the way by installing the new drive, the computer lost its internet connection I believe because I can’t go online on safe mode and I will have to reinstall it.
How can I fix this? Any answer will be definitely helpful.
I removed the small thing but it doesnt do it either, I changed the place but nothing.
I tried the msconfig thing also and followed all the steops but Nothing. When It restarted, went back to the black screen saying. “primary drive 1 not found. Alert. OS install mode enable.”
I went to device manage. I have the hard drive which is MAXTOR 7Y250P0. THere are some yellow mark as well like:
Ethernet
Other decives
Multimedia
PCI model
When I hit F2 these are the options I have. I can go there change things.
-Drive configuration
-Hard drive sequence
-boot sequence
-Memory info
-CPU info
-Integrated devices
-power management
-system security
-keyboard error
-Auto Power on
-Fast boot
-OS Install mode
-Limit CPUIB value
-IDE hard drive accoustik mode
-system event log
-asset tag
Thanks but why do you want me to remove the cable from it?

If this is a single drive on the IDE cable ,remove the jumper from the drive

go into the bios and check the first boot device. you should be using disk 0. also try setting the jumper (little black thing) as cs or cable select and connect the drive to the last (master) connection on the ribbon cable.
