Zebra Thermal Printer trouble printing correctly?
I have a Zebra 2844-Z thermal printer that prints with a narrow white stripe along an area that should be printed black. The printer head has a small scratch on it and therefore will not thermally mark anything along that area when printing. This is a problem because I print shipping labels with a barcode and the USPS scanner won’t pick up the barcode.
Can this be fixed, or does the printer head need to be replaced? It is out of warranty.
Thank you in advance.
Best answer:
It can be fixed in that the printhead will need to be replaced. The printhead itself cannot be repaired. The thermal printhead elements where the scratch/damage is are permanently damaged and unfortunately unrepairable. The printhead is fairly easy to damage if anything hard scrapes it. You can usually use your fingernail to carefully scrape off any label or adhesive that may accumulate on it, but nothing harder.
Sometimes metal staples, filings or small, hard pieces of dirt can be pulled through the printhead with the labels and damage the printhead.
If it is off to one side, you may be able to adjust the program to print the barcode in a different spot so that you won’t have any blank areas through your barcode.
Best of luck.
