The laser scanning beam on the Symbol LS2208 barcode scanner is very small and bright, which makes it easy to scan small barcodes. This scanner dependably and easily read Code 39 barcode font printed at 6 points and Code 128 barcode font printed at 8 points. Overall, this is the best laser barcode scanner at this price.

Best answer:
I think you need a seperate power supply for the scanner, there may be a socket on its serial plug, or on a plastic blob on the cable with a socket.
I can’t remember the voltage offhand but think it may be around 5Vdc.
Just had another thought, I think you just have to change the cable on the scanner for a USB one. Theres a wee hole on the handle you poke a paperclip in to release it, but no clue how much the new cable would cost

symbol ls2208 scanning uppercase vs. lowercase?
We are using symbol scanner ls2208 at our plant and the new system (Oracle) we will be switching over to this month works mostly with uppercase and will spit it back in some sessions if it is in lowercase. now if we scan our bar codes with the keyboard on lowercase it is ok it scans in uppercase but if we have our caps lock on the keyboard and scan a bar code it comes out in lower case. Can anyone help I tried a couple of different things including a scanning a program sheet. Can anyone help please…
Best answer:
You can program the ls2208 with a CAP LOCK override, so that it doesn’t matter whether or not the caps lock button is active. This and many other issues are easily searchable in the user’s manual, a 400 page pdf available at symbol.com, in the support area for that specific scanner.
