Why most, if not all barcode sensors, optical mouse use red lights, and not blue or green or other lights?

Best answer:

Red light’s frequency length is such that it cannot be easily disrupted by ambient light. It allows the sensors to work in daylight, an essential function.

Have You Ever Noticed, Most Countries Make Money From Copying U.S. Inventions?
AMERICAN INVENTIONS:
(Everything on this list is proven to be an American invention.)
(This was posted by reporter_on_the_streetsss.)
Electronic televisions (tvhistory.tv/Philo.htm ), email, transistors, microwave oven, tobacco cigarette, refrigerator, lcd screens, plasma TVs, computer chips, lightbulb, fluorescent light, electronic calculators, VCR, harddrive, internet, telephone, cellphone, satellite communication, portable communication radios(walkie talkie), digital satellites, stabilized rubber(shoes, condoms, tires, etc), nuclear powerplants, moon rovers, martian rovers, digital music(a/d converters), inkjet printers, laser printers, copy machine, best modern medicines, iron furnace stove, electric stove, air conditioning, airplane(engine-powered), animation (motion-picture), aspartame(sugarless sweetner), assembly line, automated teller machine (ATM), prepared baby food, bag (flat-bottomed paper), bandage (adhesive), barcode, barbed wire,

For Yes to democrats: England gladly accepted nuclear submarine missiles the U.S. gave to them within the last few years. You should be thankful. Clinton would never help out England in such a way.
Electronic televisions were invented in America.
tvhistory.tv/Philo.htm
“They achieved the first fully electronic television picture on September 7, 1927, with the transmission of a straight line. Later that year, they successfully transmitted a ‘puff of smoke’ from Cliff’s cigarette.’

An American invented refigeration: “Perkins also invented an early refrigerator (really an ether ice machine). ” inventors.about.com/library/inventors/bljacobperkins.htm

America invented the electronic calculator. Any references to an 1960′s english calculator are irrelevant: “In 1954, IBM, in the U.S.A., demonstrated a large all-transistor calculator and, in 1957, the company released the first commercial all-transistor calculator” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calculator#The_development_of_electronic_calculators
The U.S. invented the VCR. They were custom machines used by TV show makers to record shows for storage or later playback. An American (Jack Mullen) invented the technology sold by Ampex. “Ampex revolutionised the radio and recording industry with its famous Model 200 tape deck, developed directly from Mullin’s modified Magnetophones” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Mullin

Jack Mullen and Wayne R. Johnson invented the electronics to record video onto audio tapes. “Bing Crosby Enterprises (BCE) gave the world’s first demonstration of a videotape recording in Los Angeles on November 11, 1951. Developed by John T. Mullin and Wayne R. Johnson since 1950″ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videotape#Open_reel
The integrated circuit was invented in America. Drummer’s attempt (1956) at making one didn’t work.
“The first integrated circuits were manufactured independently by two scientists: Jack Kilby [American] of Texas Instruments filed a patent for a “Solid Circuit” made of germanium on February 6, 1959. Kilby received patents U.S. Patent 3,138,743 , U.S. Patent 3,138,747 , U.S. Patent 3,261,081 , and U.S. Patent 3,434,015″…”Robert Noyce[American] of Fairchild Semiconductor was awarded a patent for a more complex “unitary circuit” made of Silicon on April 25, 1961. ”
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit#The_birth_of_the_IC
Microwave oven:
America invented the microwave oven using American technology. A microwave oven works on the principle of using microwaves (generated from another American invention) to move and create friction mainly in water molecules in food. Sounds simple to make but it is not. One of the most difficult problems was finding the microwave frequency that worked best for heating water. It was a problem because the inventor only had access to 1940′s technology. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwave_oven.
About magnetrons (“microwave generators”), they were invented in America. Modified ones were used by England during WW2. “two-pole magnetrons were developed in the 1920s by Albert Hull at General Electric’s Research Laboratories (Schenectady, New York)” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavity_magnetron#History
Also a important American invention is the Audion:
“De Forest is one of the fathers of the “electronic age”, as the Audion helped to usher in the widespread use of electronics”
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_DeForest
The first working transistor was invented in America. It was one of the most important inventions of the 20th century.
“John Bardeen and Walter Brattain and William Shockley received the Nobel Prize in 1956 for the invention of the transistor.” inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aa061698.htm
pbs.org/transistor/background1/events/miraclemo.html
cedmagic.com/history/transistor-1947.html
Edison invented the first “working” lightbulb. He received two patents for it.

What's the most powerful sci-fi/fantasy weapon you can think of?(must make some sense, original ideas welcome)?

December 31st, 2007 at 04:04pm Under Forum

What’s the most powerful sci-fi/fantasy weapon you can think of?(must make some sense, original ideas welcome)?
PLEASE SPECIFY WHICH OF THESE 8 CATEGORIES THE WEAPON BELONGS IN.
You don’t have to top my examples.

If anyone knows the names of any of the unnamed books I have mentioned please tell me.

CATEGORY 1: MAGICAL/MYSTICAL (must be usable by individuals without magical powers)
EXAMPLE; Wonder woman’s lasso of truth.

CATEGORY 2:MELEE
Example Light Saber

CATEGORY 3: WAR MACHINES/WEAPONS PLATFORMS
EXAMPLES; The Iron Giant Appeared in movie of same name, and was unstoppable by cold-war tachnology, exept the atomic bomb, (but even then it repaired itself afterwards).
BOLOs
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolo_(tank)

CATEGORY 4 LONG-RANGE:
EXAMPLES; a futuristic gun that was never named in a sci-fi book that could make its own bullets from raw materials including ones that resembled swarms of tiny beetles that sought out thier targets by dna planet-wide, had auto-targeting systems with an advanced 360 degree scanner that made it impossible to surprise the user even in his sleep.
and an ai interface that knew and taught advanced military strategy, This gun was smuggled onto a war-torn plant where it fell into the hands of a homeless boy, who proceeded to use it to literally take over that planet.

A ship-mounted cannon mentioned in a sci-fi book that I have forgotten the name of that used a combination of magnetism and artificial gravity to accelerate metallic projectiles to light speed resulting in an almost complete mass-to energy conversion on impact with target.

CATEGORY 5, OTHER: EXAMPLES
Green Lantern’s Ring, Silver surfer’s surfboard, Cerebro (from X-men)

CATEGORY 6 MASS DESTRUCTION: EXAMPLES
A satellite laser cannon from “The New Adventures of Superman” that could reduce targets of unspecified maximum size to ashes (the man who created it planned to destroy West Virginia, but his more moderate accomplice suggested Antarctica)

An original idea of my own of twin laser-like beams that converge on a single point, from which would grow a sphere that can be a few feet to several hundred miles wide and neutralizes the molecular bonds of anything caught within that sphere, thus reducing everything within that sphere to it’s component elements, with no explosions or collateral damage. called the molecular disruptor (please suggest better names)

CATEGORY 7: SUPER MASS DESTRUCTION EXAMPLES
Death Star, de-planetizer (from Ratchet&Clank),Drej Mothership (from TITAN A.E.)

CATEGORY 8 ULTIMATE MASS DESTRUCTION:

EXAMPLES
A mathematical formula developed in a sci-fi book that I have forgotten the name of originally developed to re-stabilize a star that also demonstrated how a series of specifically timed laser cannon strikes on any stable star could artificially trigger that star to go nova and strerilize a sphere several light-years wide.

A device from another forgotten sci-fi book that neutralized gravity on any object, some terrorists in that book threatened to use it on a star, thus cancelling the balance that keeps a star from exploding and releasing all of its stored energy of a million year period at once, a character in the book said it would sterilize everything within a spherical 200 light-year radius.

An original idea of my own from a NOVA program on hypernovas which occur when a star larger than the ones that make supernovas explode, these stars begin the normal explosion phese of a supernaova but during the contraction phase which makes a black hole, the gamma energy is focused into two concentrated beams by the intense gravitational forces of this contraction.
According to NOVA, these beams would concentrate all the radiation of the star explosion into two laser-like beams at opposite poles of the contracting blackhole that has an effective range of several thousand light years and can sterilize any solarsystems caught in the beam’s path,THIS IS WHAT SCIENTISTS BELIEVE TO BE A FACT!!! My idea is simply this,
what if an extremely advanced alien race could artificially trigger and aim hypernovae?

Another original idea and THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON I CAN THINK OF:An extremely advanced gravity inversion device that can temporarily alter gravity from an attractive force to a fluctuating attractive/repulsive force aimed at the super massive black hole that most scientists believe to be at the center of every galaxy. This would result in a spreading shock wave of opposing gravitational forces that would tear apart stars and planets in the innermost sections of said galaxy, mid-way out from the center, the gravitational forces would be strong enough to trigger most of the stars in that reigon to go nova, vaporizing any planets orbiting those stars, in the outer portions of the main galactic body, severe fluctuations in radiation output of many stars would be triggered sterilizing most planets, the gravitational forces would also strip those star systems of thier respective planets, making any planets that were not sterilized totally uninhabitable. Finally, in the out

Best answer:

Well, it depends on your definition of “makes some sense.” :-)

The most powerful weapon I’ve ever come across is from the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, which can throw galaxies as weapons. Given enough energy, I suppose that’s theoretically possible.

The most powerful weapon I can think of besides that is the “category 8″ Black Hole Cannon from Space Runaway Ideon. It basically generates a black hole in front of the weapon, with an energy shield between the weapon and the black hole, creating a kind of directed funnel.

what make of"all in one"(scanner, copier, fax, printer)is most practical?

what make of”all in one”(scanner, copier, fax, printer)is most practical?
Looking for ease of operation and cost of ink replacement?I was told by “cartridge world” that having a color printer is silly because all you want color for is pictures-and that they take their pictures in to be developed -so a black only laser printer is best considering the amount of printing pages is far exceeding,as well as the cost of refilling of ink material-anyone have a suggestion or feedback on this?

Best answer:

Get the HP all-in-one if you want a cost efficient unit. The ink may be slightly more expensive but you get more prints per cartridge and the setup on HP is easy. Not that Canon isn’t good or Brother, but the cost of the cartridge is more than the printer itself.

The new HP 4780 is a very very good and well rated and also, wireless. Here is the link…

The HP Photosmart is another fine product that is well-rated…

I was wonder what is the most expensive item to have a bar code. Either an MSRP or an after market item. It would be hard to determine an after market value due to auctions and other type sales.

Best answer:
