Best network setup for my Stock Control System?
Possible network topologies and media that could be used to create the in-house network.
(LAN) for the stock control system in the warehouse. This system will require a number of workstations, a large database and peripheral equipment for creating invoices, data input, etc.
Please explain how the topologies operate and please provide a recommendation for which topology and medium to use including reasons for this recommendation. Include detail of how the website will have access to the stock control system.

CCNA and Network Jobs?
I currently run my own company but the economy has put a damper on revenue. If things don’t improve soon, I will have to fold and find a job. I have a BS in Electrical Engineering Technology degree and about fifteen years in wireless networking and mobile computing(barcode, RFID) in warehousing, manufacturing and distribution. I have done hundreds of wireless site surveys, installations and system designs as well as recommending and implementing warehouse management systems for companies. I am currently studying for a CCNA certification.
I am going to give my company one year to provide me with a living. If things don’t improve I will have a CCNA by then and go after a networking job and work for someone else.
My question is with my degree, experience and certification, will I be able to get a job in networking? Not just any job, but a good job?
Best answer:
The Holy Grail for IT employment is a 4 year degree, some industry certs and experience. If you have all three of those you should be in good shape and it sounds like you do.
There are many experienced IT people on the street right now just like folks in other sectors. What the job prospects will be like in 12 months is hard to predict. Long term we don’t see it going away. Cloud Computing, if that becomes the next big area, will only bring more emphasis on network bandwidth requirements and should mean good jobs for network people.

Help connect wireless printer to home network.?
We have a massively wired house (pre-wireless!) with a patch panel where the cable internet connection comes in, connected to the router and the cable modem. Desktop computer is in another room, connected to the wall. We have a non-networked local (USB) laser printer connected to the desktop computer and keep the desktop computer on all the time so we can print with our 2 wireless laptops. We use all three computers regularly.
We bought a new scanner/fax/printer that has a wireless connection and is currently connected via USB to the desktop computer. We only have one drop in the room we have it in, and want to use that drop for the phone instead so we can fax.
What piece of equipment do we need to purchase (and how much?) to be able to put the desktop computer into sleep mode (to save energy) and still be able to print to the new wireless printer/scanner? I’m imagining a wireless hub???
Best answer:
Since you are using wireless laptops and the printer has wireless capabilities, just add the printer to your network wirelessly like you have with your wireless laptops.
Maybe I’m miss understanding your question, I’m not sure.
Refer to the manual/software to configure your wireless connection.

URGENT: Network design for a high school. Which topology, software and hardware are needed?
Two schools located approximately a kilometer apart and on opposite sides of a busy road have merged. The larger of the two schools is used as a Junior High School, and the smaller of the two schools as a Senior High School.
The computer facilities and networks at the Junior High School were recently upgraded.
The computer facilities and networks at the Senior School site are in urgent need of upgrading. The school has three computer labs each with 20 computers and 1 monochrome laser printer. There are a further 16 computers in the Library as well as a monochrome laser printer, a color inkjet printer, a flatbed scanner (which is connected to a standalone computer), and a photocopier. Most of the computers are close to five years old, are very slow and have insufficient memory to meet the needs of the students.
All teachers have been issued with laptops and desktop computers have been removed from the Staff Room.
The Administration Office computers and printers have recently been replaced and need no further action.
The two main objectives for the school are to network the two school sites, and to ensure that the students in the Senior School have access to the best computer facilities they can provide.
The school requires that:
1.Both school sites are networked,
2.The current network, computer labs, and library are upgraded and/or redesigned to meet student and teacher needs,
3.Wired access for at least one teacher computer is provided in all classrooms,
4.Wireless network access is available in all classrooms as well as some outdoor areas for teachers and students,
5.Students have access to study resources from school and home,
6.Videoconferencing facilities are available.
Suggest a type of LAN architecture that is suitable for the school. Please identify all the network hardware and software necessary to build the LAN solution(s) you are proposing.
Remember that it is a school and access to the internet will need to be controlled and some sites blocked.

Choose one of the options below to connect the all-in-one to either a wired or a wireless network.

Delete the USB-connected printer from the computer.
1.
Click Start .

2.
Disconnect the USB cable from the back of the all-in-one.
3.
Press the Setup button on the control panel. The Setup Menu displays.
4.
Press the down arrow button to select Network and then press OK . The Network Menu displays.
5.
Press the arrow buttons to select Wireless Setup Wizard and then press OK . The Wireless Setup Wizard displays.
6.
Follow the instructions that display on the screen.
7.
Insert the product CD into the CD-ROM drive on the computer. The startup screen displays automatically.
If the startup screen does not display automatically, use the following steps to start the installation manually:
1.
Click Start .
2.
Click Run . The Run dialog box displays.
3.
In the Open: text box, type D:\setup.exe , where D is the letter of the CD-ROM drive, and then click OK .

Follow the instructions that display on the screen.
10.
When prompted for the connection type, select Through the network and then click Next .
11.
Select Wireless and then click Next .
12.
Follow the instructions that display on the screen to complete the software installation.
Changing a USB connection to a wired (Ethernet) connection
1.
Delete the USB-connected printer from the computer.
1.
Click Start .
2.
Click Settings .
3.
Click Control Panel .
4.
Double-click Printers and Faxes .

Insert the product CD into the CD-ROM drive on the computer. The startup screen displays automatically.
If the startup screen does not display automatically, use the following steps to start the installation manually:

How do i setup my printer to my wireless network?
I have an HP Photosmart C3100 series All-In-One printer/scanner/copier, connected by USB to my IMac. I was trying to get an IPhone app to print directly from my IPhone to my printer, but it says my printer needs to be setup to a network connection, so it obviously already isnt. If you could tell me how to set it up or if you could find an IPhone app that lets print stuff to a printer thats connected to a computer by USB (my computer’s internet connection is Verizon wifi) that would be great!
thanks!

Best answer:
As far as i am aware you can only use the scanner if it is plugged in to a computer via a usb cable and not via the wireless network.
