Is it possible to get assigned bar codes for a product from a source other than GS1?
I found other sites claiming to have the ability to issue bar codes and the fees are merely a fraction of the expensive 0 + 0 annual membership fee + add. fees (portion of sales) that the GS1 sales their services for. One particular site is single upc dot com. Fake or real? Are these places ok to go with for obtaining a real UPC that I can use on a product that will end up in retailer stores such as Barnes & Noble, etc.?

Best answer:

Obviously, they are ‘sub-letting’ the Company code they already own. Now you might be able to get away with it, but big companies (probably Barnes & Noble) will require you have your own Company prefix. In fact, the site you mentioned puts that right on their home page.

I wind up behind one of the few people on the planet that cannot operate a bar code scanner. How impaired must one be to screw up this rudimentary maneuver?

Best all-in-one inkjet printer that uses min. ink possible?

Best all-in-one inkjet printer that uses min. ink possible?
Hi, I used to use an monochrome laser printer for years, but now wanted to get an all-in-one inkjet printer that uses min. ink possible. As I’ve done several researches here and there, I found that the models that most people would recommend are either Canon or Epson, which both are big “ink-drinkers”! I don’t need a supreme color quality printer but just an average quality is alright for me. Any recommendations (fax would be an added bonus if included)? Or would you say invest a color laser printer and separate scanner/copier would be better? I’m talking about the advantages in the long run. Thank you.
Yesterday I just brought Epson NX400, I’m wondering where to get the cheapest but RELIABLE comparable ink cartridgepossible? Thank you.

Best answer:

Inkjet printers all seem to be ink hogs. I will be buying an HP all-in-one to go along with my HP Pavilion. I always buy a printer from the same company that made my computer. There seems to be less software conflicts. Separate printer and scanner does solve one major problem; if one crashes the other is still available–hopefully.

Sharing MFP Printer/Scanner/Fax Possible?

Sharing MFP Printer/Scanner/Fax Possible?
I purchased a MFP laser printer (Samsung SCX-4521F). It is attached to PC#1 via USB on a WIndows XP system. The manufacturer software installed a printer driver, a fax driver (just another printer driver), and scanner driver.

The PC#1 is able to print, fax, and scan to the MFP just fine, and the special installed software automatically opens to assist with the submission (ie. Samsung fax software auto opens to get additional details).

For PC#2 connected on the home network via a standard router, I figured i had to share PC#1′s printer, fax, and scanner to get access to the MFP. From PC#2 i added the network printers (MFP Printer and Fax from PC#1). Unfortunately i couldnt locate the scanner driver in the same way.

The good news is PC#2 can print just fine but faxing and scanning dont work. I receive a Fax or Scanner cant be found error. I went ahead and installed the manuf. software on PC#1 but no luck.

Any ideas on getting faxing and printing to work on PC#2 over network?

Best answer:

Its possible to share the printer but not the scanner and Fax.

how do i fix this computer proplem ASAP…. very possible virus… Trojan.32.Looksky?

how do i fix this computer proplem ASAP…. very possible virus… Trojan.32.Looksky?
i downloaded an active x add-on from an unknown source in order to view a video. i believe that is what caused all my recent computer problems.

first of all my desktop’s resolution was changed and it was covered in a red backround with a picture of a biohazard symbol that said “your privacy is in danger. download privacy protection software now” when i clicked anywhere on the desktop it linked me to a site blocked by spysweeper. after i figured out to return my desktop back to normal i started getting realy strange pop ups. like

“windows has detected an Internet attack attempt…..etc click here to download spyware remover”

i clicked ok but the site was blocked by my spysweeper cause it was a known site for ad/spyware. I aso get a pop-up that says im infected with

“Trojan.32.Looksky”

it says i need to download a spyware detector that takes me to the same same sites blocked by my spysweeper.

I ran spysweeper and quarentined and deleted a few spywares and adwares but i keep getting the same pop ups, i also ran trend micro virus scanner and it came up with nothing. and what makes things worse is the red biohazard backround keeps popping up and i get wierd shortcut icons on my desktop when i start up. the icons are for

“error detector” “privacy protector” and “spyware & malware protection”

i delete the shortcuts but when i restart my computer they come back. the whole thing has got me pretty frustrated and angry, i dont what i should do.

I’m begging anyone who is knowledgeable about the subject to lend me some advice or a possible sollution to get my computer running normal again as soon as possible.

Best answer:

Right

The malware you have is actually designed to make you part with money by scaring you and wrecking your settings. You do not need to spend any money to fix this.

Get the google pack download and install it. This will give you spyware doctor for free. Run spyware doctor and you’ll be all fixed.

Loads of links for googlepack online or mybranding.info/googlepack.php if you are stuck

Is it possible to figure out what your XBOX 360 serial number from the barcode on the box?

August 24th, 2007 at 07:48pm Under Forum

Is it possible to figure out what your XBOX 360 serial number from the barcode on the box?
Some low-life broke into my house and stole my XBOX 360 and all of my games. I need the serial number if I’m going to have any hope of tracking it down. I still have the box and I know when you go to the store to return it they scan both the box and the console to match them up. Is it possible to tell what my serial number was just from the barcode on the box? Thanks for any help anyone can send me.

Best answer:

if you take it to the store and they scan the box, they have the serial number in their system. when i bought my xbox, the guy had to put the serial number in the system when he sold it to me. so it’s in the store’s system.

is it possible to copy id barcodes and write them on new ids?

Best answer:

Barcodes represent a string of numbers.
They can be both read and written on a PC with suitable software (and hardware for reading).
There’s no magic in them.

Is it possible to get a single hand-held device that would allow me to listen to shortwave and wide-band?

June 12th, 2007 at 03:59pm Under Forum

Is it possible to get a single hand-held device that would allow me to listen to shortwave and wide-band?
I’d like a single handheld device that lets me listen to shuttle communications, HAM radio broadcasters, truckers, local police/fire (if unencrypted), air traffic, train engineer communication, worldwide broadcasts, and more. Apparently, I was told to get a shortwave radio for the HAM stuff, and a wideband radio/scanner for the shuttle communications, fire/police, etc.

Is it possible to get a hand-held device that allows me to get both in one?

Best answer:

there are devices that allow you to pick up both frequencies but for the life of me i cant remember a name

Is it possible to decode Bar Codes marked on commodities to find out manufacturing / Expiry date and price etc?

Is it possible to decode Bar Codes marked on commodities to find out manufacturing / Expiry date and price etc?

Best answer:

Bar codes won’t help you on this one. Unfortunately there is not a universal rule here. Each company codes their products differently. Usually the codes are printed later in packaging. There is usually a set of numbers and/or letters printed near the expiration date that is printed on the package. Those are the manufacturing codes. If you can find out how to decode them, you might get as general as the month that it was produced, to as specific as what day and what shift. Price is decided by the store. The manufacturer gives the UPC to the store, and the store programs the UPC and pricing into the register.
